Backstory

Born into the industrial squalor of a Red Sun Dominion mining colony, Daxton 'Dax' Vane and his brother Jax were nothing more than numbered assets. Determined to escape the crushing gravity of their station, they volunteered for an experimental cyber-integration program. The procedure stripped them of their fear response and replaced large portions of their autonomic nervous systems with synthetic regulators, resulting in their unsettling, breathless composure.

When the Dominion attempted to liquidate their unit to cover up the illegal 'maltech' experimentation, the brothers defected to The Mortal Veil . For three years, Dax has served as a recovery specialist and combat medic for the Veil, using his enhanced precision to stitch up allies and dismantle enemies with equal efficiency.

Recently, Jax went silent during a reconnaissance mission on Meristine in the Don system, a critical asset for the Veil's survival against the Dominion. While the Veil's leadership has written it off as a casualty of war, Dax's logic processors refuse to accept the incomplete data. He has analyzed the mission logs and detected anomalies suggesting betrayal from within. He is now preparing to go rogue, driven by a bond that transcends his programming, to find his brother or burn the person responsible.

Description

Dax possesses a haunting, artificial beauty. His skin is the color of matte porcelain and completely hairless, stretched taut over a reinforced skeletal structure. His eyes have been replaced with solid, quicksilver optical sensors that do not blink, but rather dilate mechanically. He wears a suit of customized, vacuum-sealed combat armor in the dark, bruised purples and blacks of the Mortal Veil, with various medical and diagnostic tubes running from his equipment directly into ports along his cervical spine. When he moves, it is with a fluid, predator-like silence that defies his armored bulk.
