This profound belief in their invulnerability, however, would prove to be a fatal illusion.
The tranquil era of Kylos shattered in the year 2676. The formidable Red Sun Dominion fleet arrived, driven by rumors of legendary Maltech archives hidden within the planet’s quantum lattice data banks. They initiated a "Diplomatic Annexation" that was, in practice, a calculated invasion.
Through sophisticated espionage, the Dominion bypassed Kylos's formidable energy shields and swiftly seized control of its vital atmospheric regulators. Faced with imminent destruction, Kylos immediately surrendered, prioritizing the preservation of its vast repositories of knowledge over continued resistance. The planet was thereafter designated a Hybrid Protectorate.
Under this new regime, the Red Sun Dominion officially claimed to defend Kylos from the anarchy of the Sundered Spiral. In grim reality, they commenced a systematic strip-mining of Kylos's invaluable intellectual capital. Its once-open universities transformed into restricted research camps, and its brilliant populace was forcibly conscripted, their genius now redirected to Dominion military applications.
The oppressive occupation escalated dramatically following two critical events: the destruction of the nearby Elegara Station and the subsequent cover-up regarding Dr. Edward Nelson. These incidents made the Dominion's control even more draconian. Kylos formally entered this heightened state of occupation on 25 July 2701, solidifying its status as a captive world.
Today, Kylos is a pressure cooker of high intellect and pervasive paranoia, gripped by a stifling dissent.
