The History of Sylvaris

Sylvaris, initially designated Terraforming Outpost Beta 9, was established at an unknown date before 3200 CE. This planetary-scale experiment was designed to push rapid vegetation growth to its absolute limits, transforming the world into a lush, vibrant green sphere. Scientists dedicated themselves to advanced ecological engineering, unaware of the impending cataclysm.

In 3200 CE, the galaxy was plunged into chaos by the metadimensional collapse, an event known as the Sundering. This catastrophic occurrence caused the Silence to fall, cutting Sylvaris off from all galactic communication and external support. Without off-world shut-off codes, the powerful terraforming engines continued to run unchecked for centuries.

Over the ensuing centuries, the planet was relentlessly transformed into a choking, aggressive global super jungle, teeming with dangerous flora and fauna. The surviving scientists and their descendants, seeking refuge from the hostile environment, retreated into hermetically sealed arcologies. These magnificent structures, crafted from polished plasteel, became their new, isolated sanctuaries.

Within the confines of these domes, their society evolved over a millennium into what became known as The Science Haven. To endure their profound isolation, they embraced radical rationalism, discarding old-world superstitions, politics, and religion. A rigid meritocracy, founded on empirical data and the unwavering principles of the Scientific Method, became the bedrock of their new civilization.

In 4151 CE, the Mortal Veil faction, under the leadership of the formidable Pirate Queen Heldra Vance, asserted control over the Vini Nehana system. Their reconnaissance efforts soon led to the rediscovery of Sylvaris. Initially, the isolationist scientists responded with hostility, deploying advanced weaponized surveillance drones to protect their sanctuary.

However, a crucial accord was eventually struck between the two groups. The Science Haven agreed to provide the Mortal Veil with invaluable advanced medical treatments and technical analysis. In return, the Veil pledged to protect Sylvaris from the encroaching Red Sun Dominion, who vehemently viewed the scientists' uninhibited research, particularly into genetics and AI assistance, as heretical Maltech.

Today, Sylvaris stands as a gleaming jewel of sterile order amidst a chaotic, verdant hell. It functions as the intellectual heart and brain of the Mortal Veil's operations within the Vini Nehana system. While pirates and indigenous descendants populate the outer islands and orbital stations, the pristine dome cities of Sylvaris remain a highly restricted sanctuary.

Within these domes, logic reigns absolute, and privacy is viewed not as a right, but as an obstacle to the collective accumulation of knowledge. With the Red Sun Dominion's recent destruction of the Fat System's vital cloning facilities, Sylvaris has quietly become the last refuge for critical biological preservation research. This new role, however, has drawn the dangerous, scrutinizing gaze of the Inquisition.

Sylvaris is currently thriving, but its vital contributions and unique capabilities place it under constant threat. Its future hangs in a delicate balance, sustained by the fragile alliance with the Mortal Veil and its own unwavering commitment to scientific advancement.
