Born: Unknown (the Null Strain Spore, as a dormant bio-weapon) Died: Backstory (the ancient Vael geneticists, creators of the Null Strain)

Centuries ago, ancient geneticists of Vael engineered a formidable bio-weapon: the Null Strain Spore. Designed as a last-ditch denial asset, this spore didn't aim to kill but rather to fundamentally alter its host. After its creation, it lay dormant, hidden within an asteroid cocoon near the Vael Station debris field, known as the Razor's Edge, awaiting an unforeseen trigger.

Five years ago, a Red Sun Dominion recovery operation inadvertently reactivated this ancient threat. A Dominion battalion attempted to breach the asteroid cocoon, seeking to recover the valuable Nelson Archive hidden within. Instead of standard defenses, they encountered and triggered the long-dormant Null Strain Spore.

The bio-weapon rapidly infected the Dominion soldiers, initiating a horrifying transformation. The Null Strain rewrote their neural pathways, instilling an obsessive compulsion to enforce Quarantine Protocols. These once-loyal soldiers, now tragically fused inside their hazardous environment suits by unchecked fleshy growths, became the Null Strain Husks.

Driven by their rewritten instincts, the Husks began to roam the debris fields of Sector 36 and various derelict stations. They retained their tactical acumen and ability to operate firearms, believing they were containing a dangerous plague. Ironically, they had become the primary vectors for the very bio-weapon they unknowingly spread.

Even amidst their relentless enforcement, the Husks remained tragic figures, often heard weeping or apologizing over their comms channels. This emotional residue persisted even as they opened fire on any non-compliant biomass. To this day, these Null Strain Husks continue their tragic vigil, patrolling hazard zones or drifting silently on derelict ships, forever enforcing a quarantine they embody.
