The story of these unique devices begins with the meticulous planning of the Red Sun Dominion's intelligence division. Faced with the challenge of covertly monitoring the vast, lowly work camps across Meristine, they conceived of the ultimate camouflage: sophisticated surveillance hidden within the mundane. Their solution was to embed advanced espionage technology into the ubiquitous Type 4 polymer button, a standard fastener on billions of indentured laborers' jumpsuits.

These SIG-NET, or Standard Issue Geo Networked Espionage Transmitter, devices were manufactured at an unknown time, a select few thousand among millions of identical, simple plastic fasteners. Each SIG-NET button was a marvel of miniaturization, containing the Spiral's most advanced surveillance technology. Visually indistinguishable from their common counterparts, they offered unparalleled access, allowing operatives to move freely among the masses or infiltrate high-security labor processing centers without detection.

A pivotal moment in the history of this specific set occurred when the operative Aron T. Lael defected from the Dominion. Before his escape, he successfully stole these SIG-NET devices from a secured supply cache. This act significantly contributed to the scarcity of functioning sets outside of active Dominion operatives.

Due to the Dominion's intense paranoia and stringent control over such sensitive tools, finding a functioning set of SIG-NET buttons outside of their sanctioned use remains incredibly difficult. These particular devices, once intended for grand espionage, have now entered a phase of quiet concealment.

Currently, this specific set of SIG-NET devices is carefully pinned to a ragged strip of grey cloth. It is housed within a watertight container, its advanced capabilities dormant and awaiting discovery or deployment. While the ultimate destruction date for many such devices remains unknown, this particular collection endures, preserved in its secure, hidden state.
