The origins of this colossal structure are lost to time, having been founded at an unknown date during the prosperous Golden Age. It was originally conceived and constructed as a Terra Lung, a vital facility designed to actively oxygenate the atmosphere of the nearby Gilded Quarry. This ambitious project underscored humanity's advanced terraforming capabilities and commitment to creating habitable worlds. The Terra Lung stood as a testament to this era's ingenuity.

Following an indeterminate period known as the Silence, the facility suffered severe neglect and decline. Its intricate automated botanical gardens, once a source of vital atmospheric regulation, slowly rotted away. Over time, these once-lush biospheres transformed into vast pools of toxic sludge, rendering the Terra Lung abandoned and derelict. Its original function was completely lost to decay.

Upon their arrival, the Red Sun Dominion repurposed this ruined biosphere for their own grim needs. They converted the decaying structure into Hydro Complex Gamma, establishing it as the dark, industrial heart of their colony's closed-loop ecosystem. This transformation marked a stark departure from its original life-sustaining purpose. It became a factory of grim efficiency.

Within Hydro Complex Gamma, a brutal cycle of "Total Resource Utilization" was meticulously implemented. The bodies of "Harvested" workers, individuals who had failed their quotas or violated martial law, were chemically dissolved in massive Digester Vats. This process yielded a nutrient-rich slurry, which was then channeled to feed vast arrays of algae racks. The resulting algae was subsequently processed into the flavorless, gray nutrient paste that sustained the very workforce being harvested.

While the upper gantries of Hydro Complex Gamma were dedicated to producing fresh produce for the Officers residing in their comfortable terra domes, the lower levels presented a starkly different reality. They became a steaming, dripping hellscape, filled with vat-grown biomass and a pervasive sense of dread. This dual nature highlighted the severe class stratification and ruthless efficiency of the Dominion. The complex became a symbol of their power.

Currently, the status of Hydro Complex Gamma is strained and hazardous, with critical systems failing. Its essential humidity controls are rapidly deteriorating, leading to widespread corrosion of the containment racks throughout the facility. Furthermore, a growing biological contamination now poses a significant threat to the colony's entire food supply. This degradation endangers the very closed-loop system upon which the Dominion prides itself.
