History

The Rhizome

Unknown

Before the oppressive shadow of the Red Sun Dominion fell upon the Vantor system, the location now known as The Shop served a vital purpose. It was Sector 4 Hydroponics, a marvel of biotechnological engineering. This state-of-the-art facility ensured Vantor's complete food independence, a testament to the system's self-reliance.

However, this era of plenty ended abruptly with the Dominion's annexation of the system. The new regime ruthlessly choked Vantor's essential supply lines, pushing its brilliant botanists to the brink of starvation. In a desperate bid for survival, these intellectuals turned to the shadowy black market.

From this desperation, The Bio Market was born, transforming the once pristine hydroponics facility into a bustling subterranean bazaar. Here, the lines between traditional agriculture and the burgeoning field of anatomy began to blur. Starving academics traded complex theorems for synthetic meat, while pioneering gene hackers started to experiment on willing patrons, pushing the boundaries of biological modification.

The Red Sun Dominion, despite its strict dogma, has pragmatically tolerated The Bio Market's continued existence. The facility, now known informally as "The Shop" or "The Rhizome," provides essential organic compounds that the military's freeze-dried rations critically lack. It also functions as a crucial pressure valve, diverting the frustrations and desires of the local populace away from direct conflict with the Dominion.

Under the guise of a lively tavern, The Shop continues to thrive as a bohemian danger zone. It is the primary hub for Unregulated Augmentations, flesh crafting, and cybernetics that openly violate Red Sun dogma. While patrons can enjoy a drink at the bar, it is an open secret that the real business unfolds in the humid, overgrown backrooms, where The Bio Market's legacy endures.

Today, The Shop remains a high-risk, thriving hub, offering everything from illegal adrenaline glands to recreational neuro toxins. Its original purpose may be long forgotten, but its current incarnation as a center for forbidden biological advancements and modifications ensures its vital, albeit dangerous, role in Vantor's underworld.
