Backstory

Born in the sprawling underbelly of a city near the Iron Mountain, Artemus was orphaned at a young age. A giant among the smaller folk, he was an outcast, surviving as an urchin by his wits and an uncanny talent for repairing discarded junk and creating intricate clockwork toys from scrap. This life taught him kindness and hope, as he often shared his meager earnings with other street children. His life changed when he took in his younger sister, Elara, after their parents vanished. When the recent Wild Magic surge erupted from the Iron Mountain, Elara was afflicted, her body now wracked with chaotic, painful transformations. Artemus swore a solemn oath to her—The Mark of an Oath now etched on his armor—to find a cure. His research into stabilizing magic has put him in direct opposition to the artificer Redevus Branch and his anti-magic followers, who believe magic is a plague to be eradicated. Redevus's agents now hunt Artemus, believing he is trying to weaponize the Wild Magic and seeking to steal his research and unique components for their own crusade. Artemus now works in secret, taking on odd jobs to fund his work and protect Elara, his every action a measured step toward fulfilling his oath.

Description

A towering Giant of a man, standing just over eight feet tall, with a broad, powerful frame. His face, framed by a short, neatly-trimmed brown beard and kind, intelligent eyes, often bears a hopeful expression, though it is tinged with weariness. His hands are large and calloused, stained with grease and marked by the scars of his craft, yet they move with surprising delicacy. He wears a suit of custom-forged, heavy steel plate armor, visibly worn and dented from numerous altercations. The armor is a masterpiece of function over form, integrated with various tools, conduits, and articulated plates. Etched prominently on the left gauntlet is the symbol of his oath: a gear encircling a single, unblinking eye.
