Backstory

Junia Manze was a promising twenty-two-year-old junior archivist in Gelime 's 'Sanctuary of the Mind' when the Red Sun Dominion fleets darkened the skies. While many of her mentors chose martyrdom or imprisonment, Junia Manze chose survival, pragmatically offering her organizational skills to the conquerors. For the last twenty-five years, she has served as a Senior Appraisal Officer at the Bureau of Asset Reallocation (BAR).

To the Dominion, she is a loyal, emotionless functionary who efficiently values and liquidates 'seditious materials.' She has personally cataloged the seizure of thousands of artifacts, including the stripping of Vael Station. However, her compliance is a facade. Junia is a silent sleeper agent for the Null Hypothesis. She uses her position within the BAR to misclassify vital Gelimian history as 'junk' to prevent its destruction, or conversely, to route dangerous 'Maltech'—like the recovered genetic notes of Dr. Edward Nelson—into deep storage rather than the lucrative Corporate Exchange, keeping them out of the hands of corrupt Dominion officers. She walks a razor's edge.

Grand Inquisitor Thorne has recently audited her department, and she fears her subtle sabotages in the ledgers are about to be exposed.

Description

Elara possesses a severe, angular beauty, her face often set in an expression of pinched concentration. She keeps her silver-streaked dark hair pulled back in a painful-looking, precise bun. Her most striking feature is her left eye, which has been replaced with a Dominion-standard 'Appraiser’s Ocular,' a glowing red cybernetic implant that telescopically zooms and overlays value estimates on objects she looks at. She wears the drab, high-collared grey synthetic wool uniform of the Bureau, always pristine, with gloves that hide the chemical burns from handling unstable tech.
