Backstory

Born on Gelime during its golden age as a 'Sanctuary of the Mind,' Cassian was a mediocre astrophysics student who preferred gambling to studying. When the Red Sun Dominion annexed the system 25 years ago, Cassian was off-world running a 'borrowed' shuttle. While the intellectuals of Gelime were imprisoned or forced to work on Dominion propaganda, Cassian reinvented himself as a free trader to survive the chaotic Outer Spiral.

Over the years, guilt drove him back to Elegara. He began running blockades, smuggling food and medicine to the starving populace. As the resistance formed into the 'Null Hypothesis'—a group of radicalized scientists turning their genius toward violence—they needed a supplier. Cassian became their lifeline. He isn't the tactical commander; he is the face, the financier, and the scapegoat. The Dominion believes he is the mastermind due to his public visibility, a role he accepts to draw fire away from the true architects hidden in the university mainframes. He uses his 'Free Trader' persona to move components for improvised explosives and hacked processors right under the noses of Dominion customs officers. He is a man who knows he is out of his depth, leading a revolution of geniuses while barely able to balance his own checkbook.
