Tetbury

22 May 14

On 22 May 14, Tetbury was founded as a modest trading post, a small beacon of commerce in the Western Coia region. Following the tumultuous end of the Shadow War, the city experienced an explosion in size and influence, fueled by the bustling trade flowing through the vital Bukhara Spire Gateways. This rapid growth marked Tetbury's emergence as a significant hub of civilization.

During the chaotic centuries that ensued, a massive influx of disparate cultures and refugees poured into the burgeoning city. To manage this overwhelming population, Tetbury's architects undertook an ambitious project: the construction of immense, concentric walls. These formidable barriers, while initially intended for defense, eventually segregated the population into distinct districts, fostering a culture of isolationism and fierce urban tribalism among its inhabitants.

Currently, Tetbury stands as the imposing capital of Tetburland, governed by Lord Mangdaor Roth, a man once lauded for his diplomatic skill and silent guardianship of the realm. Under his reign, the city has outwardly enjoyed a period of economic prosperity. However, this golden veneer conceals a deeply corrupted core, as Lord Roth has fallen under the malevolent sway of the demigod lich Velsharoon.

Lord Roth’s corruption stems from his possession of the artifact known as the Seed of Dominion, which binds him to Velsharoon’s will. While the populace believes their Lord is fortifying Tetbury against the increasing Wild Magic surges from Iron Mountain, he is secretly preparing the city as a crucial staging ground for Velsharoon’s apotheosis. Tetbury is a pressure cooker of tension, with once-tribes now evolved into powerful noble houses and guild syndicates fiercely vying for resources within their walled districts.

The Lord's Shield, Roth's private military, enforces a brutal peace, often making citizens who question the new regime mysteriously disappear. Beneath the city's cobblestone streets, the ancient sewer system, notoriously known as The Shitter, serves as a dark conduit for illicit dealings and potent, darker magic. These depths became a breeding ground for planar energy-mutated aberrations.

On 01 May 1248, the legendary Dragonbone Vanguard, hired by Lord Roth, bravely descended into The Shitter to cleanse its infested tunnels. They thwarted a Spectator's mind magic, felled various Gricks including a formidable Alpha, and ultimately cornered and eradicated a powerful Spirit Naga. This decisive victory solidified the Vanguard's reputation as capable heroes and secured valuable resources for their ongoing quest.

Despite the Vanguard's triumph, a lingering necrotic energy persists within The Shitter, fueling chilling rumors that the dead in Tetbury do not stay dead. Ancient secrets, such as those diligently guarded by the Veiled Scribes beneath the Pigment of Truth tattoo shop, threaten to unravel the city's very history. Adding to the unease, the once-protective wards of the Copper Worm Inn have begun to fail, signaling that Tetbury's vital defenses against extra-planar threats are crumbling from within, leaving the city in a politically volatile and corrupted state.
