The Great Awakening (18 June 97) The recent surge of Wild Magic from Iron Mountain and the dangerous reactivation of the Spire Gateways proved to be that moment. The dragons saw these events not as a threat but as a glorious opportunity to reclaim Coia's true, chaotic nature. On 18 June 97, decades after the chaos of the Shadow War had subsided, a formidable horde of these dormant dragons erupted from deep within the Iron Mountain.
They spewed forth, laying waste to the city of Ironhold and unleashing a terrifying reign across the continent of Coia. For the next seven years, this horde terrorized the land, a brutal reminder of the world's untamed power. While the initial wave of destruction subsided, the presence of individual powerful Red Dragons persisted as a significant threat.
The Dragon's Ire (03 July 1248) Centuries later, on 03 July 1248, the enduring threat posed by these ancient creatures was once again brought to light. The Dragonbone Vanguard, investigating a village suffering under a dragon curse, battled and defeated a ferocious Red Dragon and its accompanying fire elemental. Their hard-won victory, however, was tragically short-lived.
A colossal black dragon abruptly emerged from the shadows, scattering the heroes in a terrifying ambush. Surviving this encounter, the Vanguard now suspects a greater, unidentified planar threat is displacing Coia's most formidable creatures, hinting at a danger far beyond even the ancient Red Dragons' own vast understanding.
Current Vigilance Today, a powerful Red Dragon, representative of its ancient and enduring lineage, is typically found guarding an immense hoard of treasure. Within the caldera of a volcano or a deep mountain cavern, this hoard serves as a focal point to gather magical energy. From this vantage, the formidable beast scries upon the world, patiently waiting for the opportune moment to enact its own grand and ancient plans.
