Specter of Sameness - History

History

Specter of Sameness

Aldric was once a human prisoner, condemned to a life sentence within the abyssal Prison of the Forsaken in Menzoberranzan. His original crime has long faded into obscurity, overshadowed by his enduring fate.

For decades, his existence was a bleak, unchanging cycle of lightless cells, meager rations, and oppressive silence. He watched countless generations of other captives arrive and eventually pass, their remains interred in the grim Catacombs of Woe beneath the prison.

Aldric's own demise was as unremarkable and devoid of significance as his prolonged life, fading away from the combined forces of malnutrition and profound despair. Yet, his spirit, so thoroughly ingrained with the soul-crushing monotony of his existence, found itself unable to truly depart.

Instead, it coalesced into the entity now known as the Specter of Sameness, forever bound to the very catacombs where his final, desolate years were spent. This tragic specter is compelled by an obsessive longing to impose order upon the chaotic bone pits.

This endless task is a futile, desperate attempt to derive meaning from a life utterly devoid of it. While not inherently malevolent, he poses a potential threat to anyone who dares to disrupt his eternal, pointless work, ceaselessly organizing bones in the Catacombs of Woe.
