The Blighted Husks are tragic figures, victims of lesser malevolent spirits that have seeped into Coia. These spirits arrive through the reactivated Bukhara Spire Gateways or have been stirred from dormancy by recent magical disturbances, particularly the rising influence of necromantic powers like Velsharoon. A Blighted Husk is born when such a spirit finds a host with a weakened will or a soul scarred by despair, a common affliction in Coia's war-torn lands.
The spirit latches onto its chosen host, utterly consuming their consciousness and animating the body like a grotesque marionette. These reanimated husks are often found lurking near sites of great tragedy or magical corruption, drawn by the suffering that fuels their ethereal forms. They retain only fragmented, twisted memories of their former lives, mere echoes of who they once were.
These distorted memories are then cruelly weaponized by the possessing spirit, fueling a bitter, all-consuming hatred for the living. The malevolent intelligence uses these remnants of past affection to lure former friends and family into deadly, inescapable traps. Animated by this malevolent spiritual force, Blighted Husks show no signs of physical decay and are often found wandering aimlessly near magically corrupted sites, forever bound to their cursed existence.
