Boots of Elvenkind - History

History

Boots of Elvenkind

The story of these particular boots began not in an elven glade, but in the humble workshop of Finnick, a cobbler from a village near the Iron Mountain. Finnick, deeply familiar with the local woods, discovered that deer grazing near the dormant Bukhara Spires possessed unusually soft, sound-muffling hides. He developed a secret tanning process using sap from Whisperwood trees and stitched the leather with sinew from the same deer. The resulting boots were highly prized by local hunters and rangers for their supernatural quietness.

Though Finnick has long passed, his craft endures, a testament to how Coia's lingering magic can permeate even common objects. This specific pair of boots recently came into the possession of a traveling merchant in Ironhold. Unbeknownst to the merchant, the boots began to manifest a secret ability, a direct result of the recent surge of Wild Magic in the area. This nascent power was a subtle but growing influence on the footwear.

On 21 March 1248, a significant event unfolded that highlighted the very forces influencing these boots. The Cocker Mountain Gate was destroyed by a group who would later be known as the Dragonbone Vanguard. After learning of a goblin horde's devastation in Altherstab, this nascent group ventured to rescue captured villagers, leading them to confront dark threats in a demonic realm. As they considered their options, goblins began to emerge from a newly opened portal.

Multiple waves of goblins poured through the portal, forcing the group into decisive action. Emis, after striking the portal several times, advocated for its destruction, a suggestion met with initial hesitation. Seeing no alternative, the group began to smash the gateway, which cracked and went clear after sufficient damage. This marked the Dragonbone Vanguard's first encounter with, and subsequent destruction of, a Bukhara Spire Gateway, an event directly linked to the environment where the boots' unique materials originated.

Presently, these boots are still held by the traveling merchant in Ironhold. The merchant remains entirely unaware of the profound and burgeoning magical potential within them. They await a wearer who might discover their true capabilities, a quiet testament to Finnick's craft and Coia's lingering, wild magic.
