This book is one of many copies meticulously transcribed by the students and acolytes of Almundo the Wise. They worked within the hallowed halls of the great library of Candlekeep, diligently recording what they believed to be divine prophecies. Whispered to Almundo from a celestial source, these texts were revered as sacred glimpses into the future.
In reality, however, these profound prophecies are nothing more than the fragmented, stress-induced ramblings of a powerful mage. Almundo herself is the tormented soul, burdened by a terrible, secret mistake that haunts her every waking moment. Her subconscious mind is desperately trying to process an unthinkable past.
While serving as a Chanter, Almundo bore the vital responsibility of maintaining the great magical ward. This powerful barrier pacified formidable threats such as the dangerous Bukhara Spire Gateways. Tragically, a momentary distraction caused her to falter in her precise recitation of the ancient incantations.
This lapse, brief as it was, sent a catastrophic shockwave through the very magical fabric of Coia. The ancient bonds holding dormant evils at bay were severely weakened, allowing long-slumbering horrors to stir and awaken. The cryptic verses within this book are therefore not glimpses of the future.
Instead, they are Almundo's subconscious recognition of the very horrors she may have unintentionally unleashed upon the world. Each line is a desperate echo of a mage's guilt, a self-reflection of the devastation she fears she has caused. This book serves as a silent testament to a world now subtly undone.
