BlueGleam, a spectral alloy unlike any natural mineral, owes its existence to a catastrophic event in history. Its origins remained a long-hidden secret, concealed beneath the tragedy that unfolded in 289 DR. It was during this grim year that the fearsome Dead Wyrm descended upon the valiant Fortress of Whisperwind, unleashing its devastating necrotic breath.
In a desperate act of defiance, the Dragonborn Paladin Sir Meklen Renald erected radiant holy barriers to protect the fortress. The monumental clash between the wyrm's overwhelming necrotic magic and Sir Renald's divine defenses created an unimaginable explosion of opposing magical forces. This cataclysmic impact instantly transmuted the fortress's deep iron foundations into the unique spectral alloy now known as BlueGleam.
Following the fortress's destruction, the newly formed BlueGleam lay buried for nearly two centuries under tons of haunted rubble. During this prolonged period of entombment, the ore absorbed the lingering anguish of countless spirits trapped within the ruins. This constant exposure to suffering imbued the BlueGleam with its peculiar properties, including the faint, constant weeping heard by its wielders.
Centuries later, the Dead Wyrm's recent reawakening had unforeseen consequences for the buried alloy. The resurgence of the ancient evil caused the spectral winds around the ruins of Whisperwind to shift the accumulated debris. This movement gradually exposed the BlueGleam, bringing it to light for the first time in centuries.
Currently, BlueGleam is found exposed in a small, eerie vein within the haunted ruins of Whisperwind Fortress. These precious deposits are not unguarded, as the spectral remnants of the noble House of Sea and Stone diligently protect them. There remains a 20% chance that any specific nodule of this "singing ore" retains a fragment of Sir Renald's final, desperate prayer, imbuing it with a potent defense against undeath.
