Pious Intent

18 June 4145

Unknown

On 18 June 4145, the vessel that would become the Pious Intent first entered service as the Aegis of Sol. During the tumultuous collapse of the Terran Empire, this ship functioned as a grim prison transport for genetic deviants. Its purpose soon darkened further, evolving into a mobile execution site for early psychics during that brutal era. The immense suffering of these thousands of prisoners left an indelible mark, their psychic echoes manifesting as the persistent "Sensor Ghosts" that still plague the ship's readouts today.

When the cataclysmic event known as the Sundering tore through the galaxy, the Aegis of Sol was caught in the crushing gravity of a nebula near Senos. Thousands more prisoners perished in its cargo holds, adding to the vessel's already profound haunting. For centuries, it remained lost, a silent, spectral relic of a terrifying and forgotten age, hidden within the cosmic maelstrom.

Much later, the Red Sun Dominion's Purity Enforcement division recovered the ancient hull from its nebular grave. It underwent extensive retrofitting and was reborn as the Pious Intent, now serving as the terrifying flagship of Grand Inquisitor Valerius Sevre. To the public, it became a triumph of modern Dominion engineering, a military cutter designed to carve out corruption from the sector.

The vessel's true nature, however, is a profound paradox and a testament to hypocrisy. While Grand Inquisitor Sevre relentlessly hunts those who employ forbidden technology, the Pious Intent itself is powered by it. Its main battery, the formidable Purifier's Gaze, utilizes a salvaged Maltech singularity projector from a long-dead world. This devastating weapon is inherently unstable, and firing it risks a catastrophic phenomenon known to the crew as "Reality Backlash," threatening to tear the ship apart.

Grand Inquisitor Valerius Sevre, a man deeply terrified of his own hidden psychic heritage, unknowingly commands a vessel saturated with the very energies he seeks to destroy. The ancient history of the Aegis of Sol, including its grim role in executing psychics, remains buried deep within its databanks, waiting to be uncovered by those brave enough to look.

Currently, the Pious Intent is fully operational, its unstable Maltech drive pushing it through the void. It charts a course for the Gelime system, ostensibly on a routine patrol. In secret, however, Sevre intends to intercept his own brother, General Kaelen Thorne, as the haunted flagship continues its conflicted and treacherous journey.
