Backstory

After making a name for himself as a powerful mage at a young age, Diothenes spent many years as a tutor for powerful Pomp family in Calimport before traveling to Candlekeep to spend more time on his research. After signing on as an Avowed in Candlekeep to further research the historical figure Redevus Branch, he quickly climbed the ranks to become one of the 8 Great Readers of Candlekeep. During this time he wrote "The Forgotten Halfing and the Slaverin Massacre," which collected all of his research into the historical figure Redevus Branch.

A package containing lost fragments of Redevus journal written in the days before the Twin Cities attack was found and brought back to Candlekeep. As Diothenes studied the journal, a curse on the journal began to work on him, convincing him Redevus was right all along.
