Backstory

Thorne Balesworth began his life under the bioluminescent canopy of Obscura Prime, tending the soil in a society that rejected advanced technology. However, as the Red Sun Dominion's shadow lengthened across the sector, Thorne realized that isolation was not safety. He left his home for Verokha, joining 'The Gears,' a band of smugglers and robin-hood figures operating out of the Felo system. There, his natural charisma and grounded wisdom allowed him to unite disparate anti-Dominion factions.

Captured during a botched extraction involving the crew of the 'Misfortune's Gambit,' Thorne was transported to the brutal Meristine work camps in the Don System. He did not remain a prisoner for long. rallying the inmates, he organized the 'Free Stars' insurgency. In a final, desperate bid to cripple the Dominion's war machine, Thorne led a sabotage mission against the primary Osmium refinery. He succeeded in destabilizing the facility, halting Spike Drive fuel production for the sector, but was trapped in the ensuing collapse. His sacrifice allowed hundreds, including the high-value target Seren Dannis, to escape into the mountains. He died as he lived: protecting the weak from the crushing gears of empire.

Description

A stocky, weather-worn man with sun-tanned skin that bears the map of a hard life. He sports a thick beard peppered with gray and kind, perceptive eyes that seem to analyze the structural integrity of both buildings and people. He is clad in practical, earth-toned linen garments stained with the red dust of Meristine, wearing heavy, magnetic-soled mining boots. Despite his rugged appearance, he carries himself with the quiet, devastating confidence of a man who knows exactly where to strike to bring a fortress down.
