Bukhara Shard - History

History

Bukhara Shard

The Bukhara Shard originated as a crystallized fragment of the colossal Bukhara Spires, ancient structures that once regulated the flow of magic across Coia. During the legendary Dragonbone Vanguard's campaign to end the Shadow War, this particular shard was part of a gateway that was violently shattered. Fling into a deep chasm within the Iron Mountain, it lay hidden and forgotten for centuries, absorbing the raw, chaotic energy of a wild magic node it landed upon.

Its long-lost existence was finally revealed by recent tremors, the same seismic activity that unsealed a chamber linked to the sorceress Ursula Nachthex. The shard now hums with the contained energy of the sundered portal and the untamed wild magic it absorbed over millennia, a dangerous and powerful remnant of a bygone era. For a period, it remained dormant, deeply embedded within its subterranean resting place.

On June 10, 310, the shard's dormancy ended. A group of adventurers, hired by an individual named Rollo, journeyed over thirty miles to a goblin village marked on their map. Upon arriving at nightfall, they began to systematically eliminate the inhabitants, following Arcon's brutal urging.

Rooster, despite the poor visibility, skillfully pinned several combatants before they could react, while other members dispatched numerous goblin sentries, commoners, and even wolves. After decimating the Bay Goblin Camp, they thoroughly searched the belongings of the fallen, successfully retrieving the Bukhara Shard and fulfilling their contract with Rollo.

The shard's journey continued on September 5, 310, when it resurfaced in the hands of Andre, the Head of the Order of Sea and Stone. A group of adventurers dispatched by the Unchained had discovered a critical connection between Andre, the ancient Bukhara Spire gates, and this mysterious, golden-glowing artifact. They tracked Andre to the Hidden Relic Chapel in Rueside's Low District, a crumbling monument of a bygone age.

Within the cavernous chapel, Andre stood gripped by determination, manipulating a broken Bukhara Spire Gateway that pulsed erratically, its obsidian runes flickering with energy. He gripped the Bukhara Shard, its glow emphasizing the exhaustion and desperation etched on his face, as the air thrummed with raw magic. Andre attempted to reason with the approaching adventurers, revealing a dire plot by Redevus to destroy the Stone Gates and sever Coia from its magical weave.

He recounted the shard's history, explaining that it had been entrusted to the Meklen family after the Awakening but was subsequently lost. Andre passionately argued that Redevus sought to tear down the very "bandage on a festering wound" that the gates represented, an act that would plunge Coia into eternal darkness. Despite Borin's diplomatic attempts to understand Andre's motives, the situation escalated.

When Andre questioned if Borin was truly alone, Rooster made a split-second decision, nocking an arrow and letting it fly towards Andre. Before the arrow could find its mark, the chapel shuddered violently, its walls groaning and cracking as the ceiling began to collapse. In a frantic scramble, the party lunged forward, grabbing Andre just as the ancient structure gave way in a roar of stone and splintering wood.

Outside, a coughing and battered Andre was pressed for more information by the adventurers, revealing deeper secrets of the gates and Redevus's plans. Having extracted every scrap of useful intelligence, the party made a grim decision, ending Andre's life with two daggers to his neck. Thus, the Unchained's agents assassinated the head of the Order of Sea and Stone, successfully acquiring the Bukhara Shard.
