For centuries, The Iron Mountain stood as a silent sentinel over Coia, a place of profound mystery. Its deep caverns were known to defy the natural laws of magic, an unusual and potent characteristic. Early human settlers, drawn by the mountain's unique ability to dampen arcane energy, established the settlement of Ironhold at its base.
Here, they mined for valuable ores and ancient relics, believing themselves safe from external magical interference. Unbeknownst to them, the mountain served as a metaphysical lung for the entire continent. It silently inhaled vast quantities of arcane energy, condensing it into a powerful liquid anti-magic substance known as Blue Flux.
The mountain would then exhale raw Wild Magic in rare, unpredictable cycles. This delicate balance maintained a period of relative tranquility, but it was not destined to last.
The serenity of Ironhold came to a cataclysmic end in Year 97 with an event later termed The Awakening. On June 18, 97 CR, mining operations inadvertently cracked the seal of the mountain's internal chambers. This disruption roused dormant dragons that had long roosted near the anti-magic void, unleashing them upon Coia.
The resulting devastation was immediate and catastrophic, leveling the city of Ironhold and plunging the entire continent into a prolonged era of terror. For seven agonizing years, the awakened dragons spewed forth from the Iron Mountain, laying waste to all in their path. Coia suffered under their tyrannical reign, seemingly without hope.
However, after seven years of unrelenting dragon-wrought chaos, a crucial weakness was discovered. On June 05, 104 CR, Meklen Armash rallied the brave Seastone Resistance at the ruins of Ironhold, planning a desperate, final assault on the Iron Mountain. They struck during a brief, critical anti-magic window, confronting the monstrous dragon posing as Tiamet deep within its lair.
Meklen Armash delivered the decisive blow, securing a hard-won victory that freed Coia from the dragon's tyranny. The Seastone Resistance became legends, though peace came at a steep cost. Since that historic day, the mountain was largely thought to be dormant, a solemn grave for both the fallen dragons and the heroes who sacrificed themselves.
However, the Iron Mountain is no longer quiet. The anti-magic extremist Redevus Branch has infiltrated its depths, discovering the vast reservoir of Blue Flux. They are now siphoning this potent liquid, redirecting it to fuel their malevolent god-killing spires, thereby disrupting the mountain's natural, ancient cycle.
This theft has critically weakened the mountain's suppression of its powerful Wild Magic node. Consequently, the trapped spirit of the ancient sorceress Ursula Nachthex has been empowered, beginning to distort the Weave itself, causing the mountain to bleed chaotic energy. The Iron Mountain, once a silent sentinel, now simultaneously houses a workshop dedicated to the death of all magic. Its current status is volatile and destabilized.
