Arkanthrax originates from the primordial void, a boundless realm of pure chaos and potential between planes. Millennia ago, a doomsday cult on Coia, seeking to unmake a world they deemed flawed, performed a ritual that pulled this entity into their reality. Their goal was to harness him as a weapon, intending to shatter the Bukhara Spires and bring about an end to all things. However, they proved unable to control the cosmic power they had summoned.
Before Arkanthrax could be fully unleashed, an earlier, forgotten incarnation of the Order of Sea and Stone eradicated the cult. The half-summoned dragon, not fully anchored to this plane, then fell into a deep slumber within the magic-dampening depths of The Iron Mountain. He remained so deeply hidden and magically inert that he went completely unnoticed during the cataclysmic "Awakening" of 97 Decades. This event saw a horde of dormant dragons erupt from the mountain, terrorizing Coia for seven years.
Despite Meklen Armash’s subsequent purge of the mountain’s dragons, Arkanthrax remained undisturbed and undetected. The hero and his companions battled fiercely, confronting the dragon posing as Tiamet, securing a hard-won victory and bringing a fragile peace. Yet, the true ancient power within the mountain continued to slumber, its presence unknown to those who fought above.
The recent reactivation of the Bukhara Spire Gateways and the subsequent surge of planar energies across Coia have finally stirred Arkanthrax from his long sleep. Now, he quietly observes the world’s chaos, subtly manipulating events and individuals from his sanctum within Iron Mountain. He sees the conflicts stirred by Velsharoon and the re-emergence of the Dead Wyrm as the perfect precursors to his own final act: "The Shattering."
